Have you ever seen this type of pattern? Fast performance, alternating with such long delays.

I'm currently on a shared hosting plan with Hostgator. I haven't been having these problems until today.

Any thoughts on what could cause this?

No, that doesn't look like a problem on your side - it looks like something on the agent side. The measurement isn't supposed to start until the browser starts navigating and I'm not sure what Chrome thinks it is doing for the 20 seconds it is just sitting there but I'll take a look and see what I can track down.
