gitUpdate from release branch

I'm running a private instance of WebPagetest on EC2 (using the AMI provided by the webpagetest team). Today, I noticed the [video] button on the results comparison of two sites is broken. Rolling back /var/www/webpagetest/www to the release branch (which as of this writing includes changes through Jan 8, 2018) resolved the issue. Are auto-updates possible if I'd like to stay on the release branch in the future? The description in settings.ini implies it is not:
